So in conclusion, to answer your question on Fallout new vegas - no. Or you just mind your own buissness and do neither. As for Fallout 3, it was used and was a prime focus for your character. Like raiding a farmer by himself, or stealing from everyday civilians with nothing to do with faction power, killing a faction leader isn't bad, it's just bad for that faction. Most of the generally good or bad things you do will ultimately affect your karma AND reputation in the same way. Over 1000000 vacation rentals and hotels worldwide. However Karma was still a thing in Fallout 2, I remember though that Karma was only awarded or taken away for certain, objectivly bad or good things. Karma does not have as much of an effect on gameplay as in Fallout Fallout 2 and Fallout 3 since. Faction reputation was introduced in Fallout 2 and, in my opinion was a good system, certain factions found certain things good or bad according to their ideaology. But being known as a jerk they'll be like NOPE NU UH! NOT TRADING WITH YOU DUDE. For example if you ever happen across a merchant in Fallout 1 whether or not they trade with you is based on your karma. Karma had a bigger effect in how people percived you in Fallout 1 and 2.
